In 2004, Turkey will host the European Championships in Ankara. The sport facilities are already today in excellent conditions. This year two newcomer countries were expected, Albania and Azerbaijan. However only Albania competed actually in Ankara.

The winner of the Men's competition was Norbert STRACKE from Germany with excellent 5378,2 points ahead of Reinhard KIEFER (AUT) and Ahmet SAPCI (TUR).

Surprisingly in the team event, last years runner up at the World Championships, AUSTRIA, was defeated by the host country. However in two weeks time Austria will try to bounce back at the European Championships, then again with the reigning Individual Champion from 2002 Stefano Palma. The third place was achieved by the German team.

Turkey also conducted an Obstacle Relay competition, which was a replay of last years World Championship final; AUSTRIA versus TURKEY. The winner this time was again TURKEY, but Austria will get their revenge at the World Championships held in Toledo by the end of July.

The Winning Team from Turkey

For the first time in history female athletes from Italy took part
at an international competition.

The Women's Class was won by
Bahar
GDEK (TUR) 4864,6 pts.
